I done some research using YouTube and other various site's reguarding the X Factor and found that girlbands never seem to find success on the show. Normally, Girl bands are voted out in the first few weeks - and if they do make it far on the show, it is common that they have faced the bottom two several times - eventually being saved by the judging panel.
This has now all changed - with the latest series of X Factor, RNB/Pop girl band Little Mix have proved to be a favorite amongst the view public - hotly tipped to be the first girl band to make the final. It's been interesting to find research on how these girl bands have been sold and marketed throughout each series. Each girl band has been stereotyped and moulded into a specific brand, and always associated with how women are being represented.
Bad Lashes - Voted out week one of X Factor 2008 after a sing-off against another girlband (called Girlband) Louis Walsh "It's like 4 hairdressers trying to be a girlband" before he refuses to put them through. Watch as the girls are voted out in just the first week, after recieving the least ammount of votes.
Girlband - After being in the bottom 2 in week one against Bad Lashes. Girlband again find themselves in the Bottom two - making it obvious that the public aren't getting them. Once it goes down too the public vote, they are voted out. - During the interview, Girl Band state how "Girls Aloud are role-models."
Kandy Rain - After it emerged that the girl band were strippers before the X Factor, Kandy Rain were voted out in the first week of the live shows. Watch as Kandy Rain speak about being judged for being strippers. "The young girls didn't vote for us."
Little Mix - And finally, with the girlbands previously being labelled as different stereotypes. This band are labelled as "The girls next door" As Tulisa stated - "You're not trying to out-do other girl bands, you represent ladies aross the country." Each live show that passes, the judge's can't enfuse enough how these are normal girls with their own insecurities. Little Mix are now favorite's to win the X Factor and it could be argued that it is because of the role they're playing towards teenage girls. The performance's below all include statements reguarding the role model matter.

Every performance they have delivered on The X Factor has been aimed towards a female demographic, as well as the comment's they have recieved - which has helped them secure a strong fanbase and stereotyped them as role models and representation's towards girls. If more games had female dominance and representation in them - it could help market them more towards a female audience. Little Mix are now the first girlband to ever reach the X Factor final, and are currently favorite to win the show.
